Trouble in paradi-er,um, CTown

Been a not so good week. In many ways.

In Tribeland. Thing are going to get very ugly for C.C. if he keeps this up. In two starts, against the decent hitting ChiSox and awfully, awful hitting A's,

10.2 IP, 9r, 9er, 7.59era, 1.78 whip, 1.830 ops

It's only two starts, and normally I'd say who cares. I don't care that Peralta and Hafner have a combined total of 3 xbh. I don't care that Paul Byrd was equally shaky.

The fans have had a fickle relationship with C.C. Whenever it seems he was ready to breakout prior to 2007, he'd start to suck, then go on the DL. Beople always blamed his weight. Now, the ghosts of Albert Belle, Manny Ramirez and Jim Thome are haunting the Prog. A good chunk of fans don't like him because they are sure he'll leave, so they'll turn quickly. Some are sure he'd leave, but still expect a great finale in a Tribe uniform. Without that great final season, they'd turn on him. And this is on top of the aforementioned fickleness.

I think he'll be fine, but given the mood, if he continues to struggle, it could snowball.

Oh, we also can't hit with Vic not in the lineup.

In LeBronland. Growing up, my dad would often root for Ohio State lose big games. I asked why. He said the sooner they fired John Cooper, the better. Turns out, when they fired him, it worked out OK.

So I introduce you to John Cooper, V2.0: Mike Brown.

Mike Brown has the best scoring frontcourt in Cavs history, yet his team never is consistently good offensively.

He has a player having the best statistical year of any player since the Big O was around, and he can't get his team to 45 wins in a terrible conference.

When his team has trouble scoring, he constantly goes to Andy and Ben Wallace, for who knows what reason.

He has the best transition player in NBA history, and yet the Cavs never run.

They say halftime is when coaching adjustments are made. And yet the Cavs always get blown out in the third quarter.

Watching LeBron has been one of, if not the biggest, privilege I've had as a Cleveland sports fan. And part of me is almost hoping a first round flameout, forcing Ferry and co. to dump this guy. With the talent he has, 50 wins and a conference Finals appearance should be the norm.

Instead, we get Anderson Varejao jacking up 10 shots a game.

In Buckeyeland. Super recruit injured and may miss the season!!!

No, not THAT guy. Mike Adams.

Brief history: Mike Adams was a senior this past fall at Dublin Coffman High School (of Brady Quinn fame), which is in the shadows of the 'Shoe. Adams is listed at about 6'7, 310 lbs. He's every bit of it, but very light on his feet. He can pass block, and in high school, was great at getting downfield on screens to fellow Buckeye recruit, Jake Stoneburner. Very much Orlando Pace-like. If you know me (and you don't, but trust me), I throw out Orlando Pace comparisons very, very rarely. I didn't do it for Joe Thomas.

Adams verbally committed to Ohio State last March, which is very early for such a high caliber player. Players who do that tend to "slip" a little by recruiting websites, because committed players aren't as sellable as uncommitted players. After the Army-All American game, in which he dominated practices, he shot back up again (not at ESPN, because he didn't go to their game), but Scout made him their #2 overall OT. Rivals shot him into #3...overall...of any player....at any position. Always take recruiting rankings with a grain of salt. But he's good.

Adams future is at left tackle, but Alex Boone is there for one more year. However, right tackle is open after Kirk Barton graduated. Jim Tressel likes putting his best 5 OLineman out there, so Adams was given the opportunity to earn the RT spot for a year before starting at LT for the rest of his college career.

Being so close to Columbus, Adams graduated early and participated in spring practice. He was well on his way to earning the RT job, until a chronic shoulder injury reared its ugly head. Adams will now have surgery and will be out until at least September. I expect him to be Boone's backup once he's ready to go, and be fully capable to start in '09. But for now, Orlando Pace V2 is on hold.

In Brownstown. Not much to report. Except, apparently, Kenny Wright is getting traded to the Bengals and wanted to fit in. So he got arrested for having some wacky-tobaccy down in Texas.

Worse, he couldn't outrun the police. Worse, as in, those cops aren't as fast as Chad Johnson.

Wright was probably the #4 corner heading into camp, behind Easy E. (Eric Wright's nickname by me), Brandon McDonald and Daven Holley. Though given the pedigrees of McDonald and Holley, major PT might not have been out of the question. Less likely now. Expect another CB to picked up somewhere.

Ironically, with Chris Henry, James Harrison and now Kenny Wright, the most moral team in the AFC North is....the Ravens?
